On the football field, Purtz had a very good junior season totaling 104 tackles, 18 for loss and seven quarterback sacks to earn All-League and All-Area honors. He played both defensive end and linebacker but is being recruited strictly as an outside linebacker.
On the recruiting front, the athlete is still waiting for his first scholarship offer but he's hearing from schools all over the country including the entire Pac 10 plus Texas, Notre Dame, Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan, Fresno State, LSU, Clemson, Air Force, Kansas State and the Ivy League.
"I don't have a leader right now and my list of schools is still pretty open," Purtz said. "I have about 17 schools I'm looking at but my top five would probably be USC, Oregon, Stanford, Washington and UCLA, again in no order. Academics are the most important thing for me followed by the strength of the football program, the connections the school has once I graduated and how hard the school is recruiting me."
Along with the NorCal Nike Camp, Purtz will have a busy rest of the summer. He's planning to camp with UCLA, USC, Stanford and Oregon and is also considering camps at Michigan State, Texas, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State and Yale.
Academically, the linebacker is carrying a 3.83 GPA and he has scored a 1080 on the SAT which he plans on taking again in hopes of scoring a 1250. He also wants to major in Business in college.
