Tiger Rag has been reporting that Clemons was on the verge of pulling the trigger and he finally gave Les Miles his verbal pledge during a one-day stop at Miles' camp.
We caught up with Clemons for a brief moment late Monday evening to see what prompted him to put an end to all of the recruiting madness.
Tiger Rag: For the past six weeks you have been on the verge of committing to the Tigers. What made you finally pull the trigger?
Clemons: I've been thinking about it for a while and the coaches have been telling me I should focus on my books so I figured if I went ahead and committed it would be easier to do that. Now I don't have to worry about dealing with the coaches during the season and having them stop by the house and always calling.
Tiger Rag: What coach did you tell about your decision?
Clemons: I told coach Miles. He said he was happy and he was glad to have me.
Tiger Rag: How is your academic situation coming along?
Clemons: I took a class this summer and made a "B" in it so that should help. The last time I checked I had a 2.3 (GPA) and I plan on taking the ACT (first time) the next time it is offered.
Tiger Rag: What position is LSU recruiting you for?
Clemons: They want me to play safety. Coach Miles said strong safety.
Tiger Rag: Some feel that you will end up at linebacker. Have the LSU coaches mentioned that to you?
Clemons: Not really. They say safety.
Tiger Rag: What other offers do you have?
Clemons: Ole Miss offered a while back and Florida, Arkansas and Tennessee said I had one.
Tiger Rag: What put LSU ahead of the other schools recruiting you?
Clemons: To tell you the truth I've been wanting to go to LSU since I was little. I love LSU. There have been a lot of guys from my school that went to there and I wanted to continue that tradition. The way they play defense reminds me a lot of how we play it at West Monroe. I also love the facilities they have.
Tiger Rag: So is recruiting over for you now?
Clemons: Pretty much.
Tiger Rag: Does that mean you may continue to look around at some other schools?
Clemons: No. That means I will still be talking to the LSU coaches when they call. LSU is the one and the only one for me.
