The LSU Tigers practicd for the first time together as a team Thursday morning at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

After practicing seperate from the veterans since the start of fall camp, the freshmen joined the upperclassmen in the only practice session of the day.

Also, the team donned full pads for the first time this August, which was hgihly anticipated by coach Les Miles and his team.

"Today was the first day in pads, and it was a lot of fun," Miles said. "We got after it a little bit, had some fun and were bumping around. There's still no tackling yet, but it's coming."

Thursday marked summer commencement at LSU and a couple of football players missed the workouts due to graduation.

"I'd like to offer congratulations to three seniors that weren't at practice today because they were taking part in commencement services: Kevin Steltz, Shyrone Carey and Ronnie Prude," Miles said. "Frankly, the mission statement of the program is to graduate every member that we have in this program, and so those guys taking part in those services today is the right message and the right thing."

It was the first time all three quarterbacks - JaMarcus Russell, Matt Flynn and Ryan Perrilloux - all shared the same practice field.

"It's nice to stand back and see three guys out there that can chuck the ball pretty well," Miles said. "It's nice to feel like you have quarterback wherever you turn."

While ti was the staff's first look at all three guys on the same field, the backs and receivers were familiar with all three guys after summer workouts.

"It wasn't really anything new," said sophomore wide reciver Amp Hill. "We've been working out together all summer."

With the addition of full pads, the heat could become a factor. After a couple of guys got winded early in the week, Miles said things went smmothly for the most part.

"We've had a really good start," Miles said. "I don't think we've been slow at all as far as conditioning goes. We've had a little problem adjusting to the practices and the extra running we're doing. But I really like the condition at this point."
