This workout marks the squad's first two-a-day practice as a complete unit.
The media was allowed to view only four periods today, as opposed to the five or six allowed at the beginning of the week.
After a morning workout consisting of fundamentals, the team was back out there practicing similar drills.
Quarterbacks JaMarcus Russell, Matt Flynn, and Ryan Perrilloux continued to rotate turns as they worked with their wide receivers in sideline catches and passes across the middle.
The second practice of the day appeared to have no effect on the veteran Russell as his passes across the middle resembled a frozen rope. Not only were the balls thrown with such a high velocity, they were also placed perfectly in front of the receiver.
However, Perrilloux may need more time adjusting to the two practices a day. He showed signs of fatigue as he underthrew balls down the sideline and threw behind his receivers across the middle.
During the sideline drills, wide receiver coach Todd Monken reemphasized holding the line against defensive backs. Dwayne Bowe appears to understand the message, as he earned praise from his coach on every route he ran.
The afternoon heat combined with full pads and a second practiced proved to have an effect on the team. In between periods, many players reached for water bottles and fanned themselves with their jerseys as they searched for a way to cool off.
For the first two minutes of the third period, fullback Shawn Jordon sat on the field as trainers attended to what looked like leg cramps. He was able to return to the squad and finish the period catching rollout passes from Flynn.
Jesse Daniels continues to miss practice due to an injured right wrist. Although he was not wearing his green jersey from this morning, he did have his wrist bandaged as he watched his teammates from the sidelines in shorts and a purple jersey.
Five special guests were in attendance this afternoon. Kathy Miles, Head Coach Les Miles' wife, and their four kids watched at a distance during the team workout.
