Fowles leads US past China in romp

IZMIR, Turkey -- LSU's Sylvia Fowles' game-high 23 points led the United States to a 107-54 victory over China in the preliminary round of the 2005 Women's World University Games on Friday morning.

Fowles, a sophomore-to-be at LSU this coming season for the Lady Tigers, connected on 11 of 13 of her shots off the bench to lead the way. She also added nine rebounds and two assists. Seimone Augustus, a senior-to-be at LSU, added nine points and three rebounds as a starter.

Team USA (3-0) led 50-32 at the half and outscored China (1-2) 25-9 in the third quarter to pull away.

The United States will complete the preliminary round competition against Poland on Monday at 3:45 a.m. CDT.
