Bradie James named to Lombardi Watch List

LSU linebacker Bradie James is one of 49 Division I football players who have met the established criteria and have been named to the preliminary Watch List of candidates for the 33rd annual Lombardi Award, the award's executive committee announced on Friday.

The 49 preliminary candidates earned a place on the initial Watch List by earning All-American honors at the end of the 2001 season, or by being named to their respective all- conference team as selected by the conference's head coaches. The Watch List will be updated prior to the start of the 2002 season, in order to identify those players who have been selected as pre-season honors candidates.

Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen and those defensive players who line up within five yards of the football.

James, who will be a senior next season, finished second on the squad last year with 113 total tackles during the regular season on his way to earning First Team All-Southeastern Conference honors. James led LSU with eight tackles for losses and he ranked third on the team with three sacks. James enters his final season with the Tigers with 264 career tackles and eleven sacks.
