Two LSU linemen on Lombardi watch list

LSU seniors Kyle Williams and Andrew Whitworth have been named to the watch list for the 2005 Rotary Lombardi Award, the selection committee announced on Monday.

The Rotary Lombardi Award goes annually to the college football lineman -- offense or defense -- who, in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the discipline of Vince Lombardi, the legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers.

Whitworth, a Monroe, La., native goes into his final season with the Tigers having started 39 consecutive games at offensive tackle for LSU. In three seasons with the Tigers, Whitworth has helped lead LSU to a 30-9 overall mark. A preseason All-America selection going into 2005, Whitworth earned First-Team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2004.

Williams, a Ruston, La., native, has been tabbed as a preseason All-America selection at defensive tackle going into the 2005 season. In three years with the Tigers, Williams has played in 33 games with 22 starts. He's recorded 105 tackles, 18.5 tackles for losses and 12 sacks, including six last year.
