Vaughn, a senior from Terrytown, La., is one of 65 players from across the nation named to the watch list for the Butkus Award. Of the 65 players on the list, seven play in the Southeastern Conference.
Vaughn enters his third season as a starting linebacker for the Tigers in 2005, but it will be his first year at middle linebacker. Vaughn made the switch to middle linebacker during the spring following the graduation of Lionel Turner.
As a junior, Vaughn played and started in all 12 games for the Tigers at weakside linebacker in 2004, registering 63 tackles and one sack. He also returned a fumble eight yards for a touchdown in a 26-10 win over Alabama.
Vaughn started six games at weakside linebacker during LSU's national championship season in 2003, finishing the year with 55 tackles and a pair of sacks.
For his career, Vaughn has played in 39 games with 19 starts. He's accumulated 156 tackles, eight tackles for losses and six sacks.
