LSU's 35-31 come-from-behind win over Arizona State will also air again on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Cox Sports Television, which can be seen in the Baton Rouge area on cable ch. 37. Last year, LSU's season-opening 22-21 overtime win over Oregon State in Tiger Stadium was dubbed an instant classic by ESPN.
Against Arizona State, the Tigers scored 28 fourth quarter points to rally for the victory. Defensive tackle Claude Wroten ignited the rally with a blocked field goal, which was picked up by Mario Stevenson and returned 55 yards for a touchdown, early in the fourth quarter to pull LSU to within 17-14.
Then, on Arizona State's next possession, LSU's Jacob Hester blocked a punt, which was scooped up by Craig Steltz and returned 29 yards for a score, giving the Tigers their first lead of the game at 21-17.
Arizona State regained the lead twice over the final 11 minutes of the game, taking a 24-21 lead at the 11:27 mark and a 31-28 advantage with just over four minutes left in the contest.
The Tigers went up for good with just over a minute left in the contest. Faced with a fourth-and-10 situation, LSU's JaMarcus Russell connected with Early Doucet on 39-yard TD pass at the 1:13 mark, giving the Tigers a 35-31 advantage. The Tigers then stopped the Sun Devils on downs, but not before Arizona State got inside the LSU 30-yard line.
Tigers, Sun Devils an instant classic
