Destrehan High School and LSU both had to move their game to Monday night and as good as Eugene is he could not be in both places at the same time.
LSU did not fare very well against the Volunteers but Eugene was spectacular once again for the undefeated Wildcats.
Behind the passing and running of Eugene, Destrehan cruised to a 38-7 win over South Lafourche. He completed 9 of 11 passes for 114 yards and two scores, and added 94 yards and two more scores on the ground.
He did all of that in only six series and since the outcome was never in doubt he did not see any time on defense.
As impressive as Eugene has been on offense, he said college coaches have really not talked to him much about playing on both sides of the ball. However, that is an option he is going to consider once he decides on his college destination.
Does he have any idea on where that may be?
"I've got it down to six but that is really it right now," Eugene said. "It's LSU, USC, Oklahoma, Miami, Florida and Michigan."
All but LSU will likely get an official visit but he plans on making the short drive to Baton Rouge plenty between now and signing day.
"I'll be at LSU for just about every home game this year as long as it does not interfere with any of our games," said Eugene. "I know I'll be there for Auburn and Florida for sure."
Eugene said LSU being so close to home was not a factor initially but as time moves on he has started thinking more about the advantages.
"I've started thinking about that a little more," he said. "That is a big reason LSU is in my top six. It doesn't really matter if I stay close because I have to do what is right for me but at LSU I could still see my son on a regular basis and be close to my family."
Eugene said he talks to LSU head coach Les Miles at least once a week and the two last spoke about a week ago.
"He just called and wanted me to come up for the Tennessee game so we could it down and talk," Eugene said. "When my game got moved I had to call him and tell him I couldn't make it."
So what do the two usually talk about?
"He tells me the same thing every time we talk and that is how bad they want me," Eugene said. "But most of the time we talk about life and how things are going."
Tiger fans had to sweat things out with Ryan Perrilloux for the 2005 signing class and it looks like they will have to do the same thing with Eugene.
"I am going to take my visits and then probably announce my decision on signing day," he said.
