Comments from Coach Miles

Opening Statement… "Looking at Florida they're a very talented team and, strong on offense, defense and special teams. They have a very capable front, as well as secondary. On offense they're very efficient. They do a good job of managing the clock. They run the ball, throw it and keep possession well. Chris Leak is a tremendous quarterback. Certainly, we look forward to playing them at home."

On Chris Leak

"He's making good decisions with the ball and he's not afraid to pull it down and run.  I think he's being limited sometimes by the call and he seems to give them every opportunity for success."

On the improvements of the LSU defense…

"The defense is continually improving.  What they did in the third game, in just the last ten days, shows that the defense is coming up to speed.  You see less busts and people understand where they're supposed to be.  They have good confidence in what we're doing."

On cutting down LSU's penalties…

"What we're going to do is show them those penalties on film and talk to them about it.  The one thing about it is, penalties that are made with great effort on blocks, down field and fighting for yards, there are a lot of positives there.  We have to change technique.  We have to change where they put their hands.  We have to change small things, but certainly that's going to be looked at."

On Florida's ability to run the option in the spread offense…

"They run less option than they have.  They still have the option.  They still have the shovel pass and all the other nuances of the spread."

On Nate Livings shuffling positions…

"I think Nate has the quickness of a guard and the size and ability to set on the tackle.  The great thing about Nate is that it's kind of question of where we need him.  He's a team player and it doesn't make any difference to him."

On Herman Johnson playing guard…

"There are some things he does athletically that make him fit as a guard.  Height wise he's one of those unusually tall guards.  By body type he looks like a tackle, but by the way he moves his feet and some of the things he does he's probably more akin to playing guard."

On the injuries at the center position…

"We lost our second team center in Ryan Miller.  We don't know if he'll be back for this week.  The good news is Rudy Niswanger our starting center is regaining health and appears to be in good shape for this week."

On the importance of adjusting coaching schemes to personnel…

"You have to change.  If you don't you'll find yourself calling a bunch of old plays that used to look good with a bunch of old guys that aren't there any more."

On the improvement of the LSU passing game…

"There's confidence there.  You look at a guy like Early Doucet, a young receiver, who's playing better and better every game.    I think our quarterback, now having started several games, doesn't feel uncomfortable at the position.  I think he's very comfortable as our starting quarterback.  I think he looks forward to the plays that our called and understands what we need to do to have success."

On the film studied to prepare for Meyer's offense…

"We looked at all of his Utah stuff and even looked at schools that ran like offenses or just had a similar style.  I think we had a pretty good scouting report before we got to this point."

On Urban Meyer's desire run the football…

"I think he understands that you have to run the football and I think he'll put the football in the backs' hands a good portion of the time.  I think he understands the importance of the rushing game."
