Weekly Wrap

On the beat:

MOVED… The Nokia Sugar Bowl to Atlanta's Georgia Dome. Sugar Bowl officials had hoped to keep the bowl game within Louisiana playing it at LSU's Tiger Stadium, but Baton Rouge could not accommodate that many people. The Georgia Dome will host the Peach Bowl on Dec. 30, an Atlanta Falcon home game on Jan. 1 and the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2. No site has been determined for the displaced New Orleans Bowl.

SOLD… T-shirts at ULL home games. There is little love between LSU and Louisiana-Lafayette fans and the Ragin Cajuns took yet another shot at Tiger fans with a t-shirt displaying the phrase "If you don't support the Cajuns, move to Baton Rouge." Quick-witted and clever and mostly overlooked by LSU fans. Some feel it is a cheap knock-off of LSU's famed bumper sticker "A bad day at LSU is better than a good day at Tulane."

DONATED… $500,000 by Arizona State University to the LSU Foundation. All proceeds from the Tigers and Sun Devils contest on Sept. 10 were donated to charity. Half was given to LSU while the other half was donated to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund.

STITCHED… Matt Leinart's chin after USC beat Arizona State 38-28 two weekends ago. The Heisman trophy winner got seven sutures in his chin after he was hit late by Arizona State's Robert James. "I don't understand the philosophy of cheap shots," leinart said. "I don't know what they were thinking. It is going to take a lot more to get me out of the game. But I've got to be careful what I say."

VANDALIZED… The field at Iowa's Kinnick Stadium. While members of the Iowa faculty want to do away with the Hawkeyes famed "pink" locker room, some mischevious persons broke into Kinnick Stadium and burned the phrase "Iowa Sucks" into the grass using a herbicide. The words were hardly visible during Iowa's homecoming win over Illinois, but as days passed, the grass slowly died and the words became more visible.

REFUSED… Letter of resignation from Navy radio color commentator John Feinstein. Feinstein voluntarily resigned after the Midshipmen's 28-21 win over Duke because he blurted out an obscenity on the air. Embarrassed, Feinstein apologized and offered to step down. However, university officials refused his resignation, accepted his apology and urged him to stay.

PREDICTED… LSU to play in the Sugar Bowl. Although Alabama and Georgia look like the teams to beat in the SEC, Fox Sports' collegefootballnews.com predicts LSU to win the SEC and represent the league in the Sugar Bowl.

FOR SALE… DVD's of Middle Tennessee State's win over Vanderbilt. On MTSU's official athletic website, game film of the Blue Raiders win over the Commodores are on sale for $5. When did beating Vanderbilt become such a big deal?
