Slam Dunk contest slated for Party at Pete's

LSU's "Party at Pete's Palace," the men's and women's basketball showcase on the first night of practice held in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, will feature a slam dunk contest.

The dunk contest is scheduled to include Dameon Mason, Chris Johnson, defending champion Tyrus Thomas and Magnum Rolle of the men's team, while 6-6 center Sylvia Fowles is schedule to compete from the women's team.

Contestants in the contest will be given 45 seconds to complete a dunk and will be scored based on creativity, crowd reaction, and overall excitement of the dunk. A five-person judging panel, which will include two lucky fans, will individually score 1-10 with an overall total of 50 points being awarded for a perfect dunk. The two contestants with the highest score will advance to the championship round where they will get another 45 seconds to perform another dunk.

The "Party at Pete's Palace" will begin following LSU's first home volleyball match of the season against Mississippi State at 6 p.m. CDT. An autograph session will be followed by a performance by stand-up comedian Mark Curry before the festivities begin on the court.

Admission is free for the entire event, including the volleyball match.
