Jarvis Green joins Davey, Faulk in New England

New England is quickly turning in LSU-Northeast with the addition of another Tiger to the roster. The Patriots opted to take Jarvis Green, who saw his draft value soar after completing his LSU career, with their second selection of the fourth round.

Most prognosticators placed Green as a late round pick at best, so Green increased his exposure with his performances at a pair of post-season all-star games. Plus, he had increased his size to 275 pounds with some intense winter training in Dallas.

But Green's only contact with the Patriots prior to being drafted was a brief conversation with a scout at a combine. He was completely surprised when the team contacted him in Baton Rouge, where the Green family from Donaldsonville had reserved a hotel suite to watch the draft and wait for a call.

Based upon the depth chart heading into the Super Bowl, Green will be the sixth defensive end on the New England roster. He is the first defensive end drafted from LSU since Miami took Kenny Mixon in 1998 in the second round with the 49th overall pick.

Green was the eleventh defensive end taken in the draft and the fifth from the Southeastern Conference.
