Howard Green joins cousin in the NFL

The Green family will have two representatives in the NFL.

Defensive end Jarvis Green was a fourth-round selection of New England, and the Houston Texans have taken cousin Howard Green in the sixth round with the 190th overall pick.

The scuttlebutt over Green's pro potential increased at a feverish pace once he completed his eligibility as LSU. Like his cousin Jarvis, Howard made the rounds of post-season all-star games and piqued the interest of a few pro teams. The most impressive asset they saw in Green was his exceptional upper-body strength, plus they liked the way he finished strong in his senior season with the Tigers.

Green joins a Houston roster with a couple of veteran NFL players expected to man the defensive tackle slots. Seth Payne and Gary Walker, both acquired in the expansion draft from the Jacksonville Jaguars, have tons of starting experience. But the other three Texan tackles have barely had a cup of coffee in the NFL, meaning Green could find a permanent spot on the team and perhaps get early playing time.
