The team was announced in anticipation of the league's Media Days to be held in Birmingham, Ala., next Wednesday and Thursday.
Davis, the 2005 SEC Freshman of the Year, was named to the first of two eight-player teams selected by the 12 league coaches. Eight of the 16 players selected to the two teams are sophomores like Davis. The Baton Rouge native averaged 13.5 points and 8.8 rebounds for the Tigers, who were 20-10 a season ago and co-champions of the SEC Western Division with a 12-4 record.
Mitchell was on the eight-player second team and the St. Martinville product is looking to have another strong season that is expected early on to put him over the 1,000-point mark scoring in his career and if he continues on the pace of the last two seasons, he could become LSU's all-time leader in three-pointers made. Mitchell in 2004-05 averaged 13.1 points per game, 2.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds, while connecting on 36.4 percent of his three-point attempts (67-of-184).
On the first team with Davis were Chuck Davis and Ronald Steele of Alabama, Ronnie Brewer of Arkansas, Corey Brewer of Florida, Rajon Rondo of Kentucky, C. J. Watson of Tennessee and Shan Foster of Vanderbilt.
Joining Mitchell on the second team were Jermareo Davidson of Alabama, Jonathon Modica and Darian Townes of Arkansas, Al Horford of Florida, Patrick Sparks of Kentucky, Chris Lofton of Tennessee and Mario Moore of Vanderbilt.
The LSU men open exhibition play at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Nov. 10 against EA Sports and open the 2005-06 season at home against Southern University at 7 p.m. on Nov. 18.
