Augustus, Fowles, Hoston preseason all-SEC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Seniors Seimone Augustus and Scholanda Hoston and sophomore Sylvia Fowles, of LSU's Lady Tigers basketball team, were named preseason All-Southeastern Conference by the league's 12 coaches on Tuesday.

Augustus, the 2005 SEC Player of the Year, and Fowles, the 2005 SEC 6th Woman of the Year, were both unanimous first-team selections, while Hoston was named to the second-team.


Augustus, a guard from Baton Rouge, led LSU last season with 20.1 points per game and added 4.6 rebounds, while Fowles, a center from Miami, Fla., collected 11.8 points and a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game off the bench.


Hoston, a guard from Miami, Fla., started all 36 games last season and posted 8.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and a team-best 2.2 steals per game. 


Georgia's Tasha Humphrey and Vanderbilt's Carla Thomas joined Augustus and Fowles as unanimous first-team selections.


LSU opens the season Nov. 2 with an exhibition game against Everyone's Internet in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 7 p.m. CST. The regular season begins Nov. 13 when the Lady Tigers travel to Lubbock, Texas, to face Texas Tech in the State Farm Hall of Fame Tip-off Classic.
