Urged… The NCAA by the American Psychological Association to ban all American Indian mascots from college sports. Earlier this year, the NCAA prohibited schools from using American Indian mascots, nicknames or other signage in postseason play. Several schools appealed, most notably Florida State. "American Indian mascots are harmful not only because they are often negative, but because they remind American Indians of the limited ways in which others see them," said APA representative Stephen Fryman. "This in turn restricts the number of ways American Indians can see themselves."
