LSU eighth in BCS

LSU remained as the eighth-ranked team in the latest Bowl Championship Series standings, which were released by the National Football Foundation on Monday.

LSU, winners of five straight, stands at 6-1 overall following Saturday's 56-3 win over North Texas in Tiger Stadium. The Tigers have a BCS average of .6875, which puts LSU percentage points behind Penn State (.6905) for seventh place in the standings.

Southern Cal returned to the top spot in the BCS standings with a .9767 average, followed by Texas at No. 2 with a .9729 average. Virginia Tech is No. 3 with a .9294 average, followed by Alabama (.8695) and UCLA (.7874).

Other Southeastern Conference teams in the BCS standings include Georgia at No. 11 with a .5864 average, followed by Florida at No. 16 and Auburn at No. 20.

LSU returns to action on Saturday, hosting Appalachian State at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
