Tigers move up to No. 7 in BCS

LSU inched up another spot in the Bowl Championship Series standings on Monday following the Tigers' 24-0 win over Appalachian State on Saturday in Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers, winners of six straight, are ranked No. 5 in all three major polls – the Associated Press, the USA Today/Coaches poll and the Harris Interactive poll. The Tigers are 7-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play heading into Saturday's battle with Alabama.

The BCS average is calculated by averaging the percent totals in the Harris Interactive and the USA Today Coaches poll along with that of the computer rankings. This week, LSU has an average computer rank of No. 13.

The Tigers have a BCS average of .6987, which puts LSU well behind sixth-ranked Virginia Tech, who has a .7540 average. Southern Cal continues to be No. 1 in the BCS standings with a .9802 average, followed by Texas at No. 2 with a .9765 average.

Alabama jumped a spot to No. 3 in this week's BCS standings with a .8814 average. The Crimson Tide is followed by Miami (Fla.) at No. 4 with a .8805 average and Penn State with a .8136 average.

Other SEC teams in the BCS standings include Georgia at No. 9 with a .6313 average, Florida at No. 13 with a .4507 average and Auburn at No. 20 with a .2799 average.
