Lady Tigers ranked No. 3 in first AP poll

LSU's Lady Tigers basketball team, coming off one of the best seasons in the program's history last year, enters the 2005-06 season as the third-ranked team in the nation in the Associated Press' preseason poll.

The Lady Tigers, who won its two exhibition games by an average of 37.5 points, including a 107-50 victory over Henderson State on Monday night, received three first-place votes and 1,025 points from the 46 voters. LSU landed behind No. 1 Duke (17 first-place votes and 1,107 points) and No. 2 Tennessee (23 first-place votes and 1,102 points).

Ohio State is No. 4, with Rutgers, Baylor, North Carolina, Georgia, UConn and Michigan State rounding out the top 10.

LSU is schedule to play nine top 25 teams this season, including Sunday's opponent, No. 13 Texas Tech.
