Zhamal Thomas commits

Tiger Rag received a phone call late Saturday night from New Iberia (La.) offensive lineman Zhamal Thomas and he had some good news for Tiger fans.

"I committed to LSU about an hour ago," Thomas said. "I told coach (Les) Miles and he said he was waiting on me and now he is glad to have me."

Thomas had LSU at the top of his list since day one so what made him decide now was the time to pull the trigger?

"I always knew but I really wanted to tell coach Miles in person," said the big 6-4, 315-pounder. "I don't care where you go it's not going to top LSU. Once I got down here for my visit and had a chance to talk to coach (Miles) I figured there is no sense in waiting any longer."

Thomas said now his focus will shift to his academics as he is working hard at qualifying. He said he is taking correspondence courses that will help get his GPA up to par and only needs a couple of points on the ACT.

The three-star prospect took the ACT early Saturday morning and said he felt confident that he took care of business.

Tiger Rag will have more on Thomas' commitment along with updates on the rest of the recruits that were also in town over the weekend.
