Cox close to a decision

Waco (Texas) University cornerback Perrish Cox (6-0, 175, 4.4) is one of the top players in the country at his position and he is close to putting and end to the recruiting process.

"I'm close," Cox told Tiger Rag. "It's going to be before Christmas and it's down to LSU and Oklahoma State."

At midnight last night, recruiting hit a "dead period" where coaches can't call or visit with recruits in person. Before the clock struck 12 o'clock, though,  LSU running backs coach Larry Porter called Cox to see if he was ready to pull the trigger.

"He (Porter) called and was asking me if I was ready," said Cox. "I told him that I was close and it could be any day now."

Since this has become a two-team race for the nation's sixth rated cornerback what are the positives that each school offers?

"With Oklahoma State the biggest thing is playing time," he said. "They don't have anybody coming back and no one to battle for playing time.

"With LSU they have the championships. That is what stands out with them. If I go there I know I am going to win some championships. Another thing is my girlfriend is going that way. She is going to Southern so we would be real close."

With a decision to come any day now which way is the four-star recruit leaning?

"I'm leaning to LSU," he said.
