TIGER WRAP: Our updated wish list

LSU's recruiting list started out with well over 1,000 names but now that list has been dwindled down to only a handful.

Here are the guys to keep an eye on over the next six weeks with my predictions on how this class finishes up.

Bold: Indicates has LSU offer.

Quarterbacks: Needs: 1; Committed 0

Top Targets

Sonny's Pick:  There is an empty feeling at the quarterback spot.

Running Backs: Needs: 3; Committed 2

**** Charles Scott 6-0, 220, 4.5 Jonesboro (La.) Hodge

*** Richard Murphy 6-1, 195, 4.5 Rayville (La.)

Top Targets

***** Keiland Williams 6-0, 225, 4.5 Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy  80-20

USC and Florida are making a strong run at the nation's seventh rated back but LSU is in great shape. Academically qualified.

Sonny's Pick: Keiland Williams

Wide Receivers: Needs: 3; Committed: 1

**** London Crawford 6-2, 186, 4.5 Mobile (Ala.) Davidson

Top Targets

**** Lance Kendricks 6-4, 205, 4.5 Milwaukee (Wis.) King 40-60

LSU has a chance with the four-star wide out but look for him to sign with the hometown Wisconsin Badgers. Academically qualified.

*** Markeith Summers 6-2, 190, 4.6 Olive Branch (Miss.) 40-60

The Tigers are one of his top choices but Ole Miss and Mississippi State are the two frontrunners. Needs a point or two on his test score to qualify.

*** Ricky Dixon 6-2, 203, 4.6 Reserve (La.) East St. John 80-20

Some wonder why it has taken him so long for him to commit to LSU but it is only a matter of time. Has GPA but needs test score.

*** Jarred Mitchell 5-11, 195, 4.5 New Iberia (La.) Westgate 60-40

It's a three party race between LSU, South Carolina and major league baseball. Look for Mitchell to choose LSU because it's close to home but the big bucks he gets from pro baseball will lure him away to the minor leagues. Academically qualified.

*** Chris Mitchell 6-0, 170, 4.5 Marrero (La.) John Ehret 60-40

He may be the No. 1 target at this position based on the outstanding performance in his senior campaign. He could give the Tigers his pledge in January but his recent offer from Miami is not good news for LSU's cause.

Sonny's Pick: Chris Mitchell, Jared Mitchell  or Ricky Dixon depending on which two pull the trigger first.

Tight Ends: Needs: 2; Committed 2

*** Richard Dickson 6-4, 249, 4.7 Ocean Springs (Miss.)

*** J.D. Lott 6-4, 212, 4.6 Birmingham (Ala.) Briarwood Christian

Top Targets

**** Jermaine Gresham 6-6, 226, 4.7 Ardmore (Okla.) 30-70

Plans to visit LSU in January but there is a good chance he will already be an Oklahoma Sooner by then.

***Bradley Dedeaux  6-3, 235, 4.8  Oklahoma City (Okla.) Midwest City     40-60 If Offered

LSU showed interest in the beginning but then backed off. If Les Miles wants another tight end in this class then this could be the guy. Academically qualified.

Sonny's Pick:  J.D. Lott and Richard Dickson fill needs.

Offensive Lineman: Needs: 5-6; Committed 4

**** Matt Allen 6-3, 278, 5.2 Klein (Texas) Klein Collins

**** Steven Singleton 6-3, 293, 5.4 Buford (Ga.)

*** Zhamal Thomas 6-4, 325, 5.2 New Iberia (La.) 70-30

* Mark Snyder 6-7, 275, 5.1 West Monroe (La.)

Top Targets

***** Andre Smith 6-4, 315, 5.2 Birmingham (Ala.) Huffman  30-70

LSU is still in the mix for the nation's top rated lineman but he will need a spectacular visit on Jan. 13  for the Tigers to overtake the two in-state powers and USC. Academically qualified.

***** Ian Symonette 6-9, 350, 5.4 Houston (Texas) St. Pius X 40-60

LSU gets the last crack at the big native of the Bahamas but odds are he heads back closer to home to Miami. Les Miles is reportedly a good closer on the recruiting trail so don't count the Tigers out just yet. Academically qualified.

**** Charles Deas 6-4, 326, 5.2 Lauderdale Lakes (Fla.) Boyd Anderson 30-70

Deas lists the Tigers but it could be only for show.

**** Butch Lewis 6-6, 285, 5.2 Aurora (Colo.) Regis Jesuit 10-90

Georgia or Miami stand the best shot at landing the tackle from Colorado. Academically qualified.

**** Marcus Gilbert 6-6, 280, 5.2 Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Acquinas 30-70

Florida and Auburn are the top two but LSU's need for tackles could give him something to think about. Scheduled to visit in January so the longer he goes without making a decision the better it is for LSU.

***  Phil Loadholt  6-9, 325, 5.1  Garden City Community College    50-50

The big Juco tackle is heading to Baton Rouge on Jan. 20 but I'm sure Les Miles is hoping that he has filled his needs by then. If not, Loadholt, could find a new home on the bayou. Scheduled to graduate in May.

* Larry Brewer 6-7, 320, 5.2 Slidell (La.) 70-30  If offered

Brewer is still hearing from the LSU staff and is hoping for an offer. If all of the other tackles slip through the cracks then Brewer could land the offer he has been wanting the most. Academically qualified.

Sonny's Pick: Ian Symonette, and or, Phil Loadholt round out the O-line.

Defensive Ends: Needs: 2-3; Committed 2

*** Lazarius Livingston 6-3, 252, 4.8 Ruston (La.)

*** Marcus Tillman 6-4, 250, 4.8 Franklin (Miss.) Meadville

Top Targets

** Dexter Manley, Jr. 6-4, 260, 4.8 Santa Monica Community College 70-30

If the Tigers want Manley he is theirs. The only downside with him is that he will not graduate until May.

 ** Braylon Broughton  6-6, 240, 4.7  Dallas (Texas) Hillcrest      ?????

Broughton has been impossible to reach but the Iowa commitment is rumored to be looking at LSU.

Sonny's Pick:  Dexter Manley Jr.

Defensive Tackles: Needs: 1-2; Committed: 1

**** Al Woods 6-5, 327, 5.2 Elton (La.)

Top Targets

***** Gerald McCoy 6-4, 285, 5.0 Oklahoma City (Okla.) Southeast  30-70

How great would it be for LSU to land two of the best tackles in the country in McCoy and Al Woods. Woods is a definite but McCoy is a long shot. Academically qualified.

Sonny's Pick:  It's Al Woods and only Al Woods.

 Linebackers: Needs:  5; Committed  4

**** Jacob Cutrera 6-4, 225, 4.5 Scott (La.) Acadiana

*** Danny McCray 6-2, 205, 4.5 Houston (Texas) Westfield

*** Perry Riley 6-0, 210, 4.6 Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson 55-45

*** Kelvin Sheppard 6-2, 222, 4.7 Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson 60-40

Top Targets

**** Mark Johnson 6-3, 230, 4.5 Los Angeles (Calif.) Susan Miller Dorsey  30-70

He says LSU is still in it but that is not the feeling I got the last time we spoke. Ohio State has been mentioned frequently from the get go. Academically qualified.

**** Derrick Odom 6-2, 205, 4.5 Jackson (Miss.) Calloway  60-40

The Tigers have room for one more linebacker and this could be the guy. LSU and Alabama are battling for his signature and there is a good chance the Tigers beat the Crimson Tide again. Academically qualified.

 **** A.J. Jones 6-2, 190, 4.5 Tampa (Fla.) Middleton  35-65

Visiting LSU on Jan. 13 but Florida holds the upper hand. Academically qualified.

***  Rory Johnson  6-1, 230, 4.6  Hinds Community College  30-70

Not sure how serious the Tigers are about Johnson. He is likely on the back burner but could emerge if Odom chooses Alabama.

Sonny's Pick: Derrick Odom and the Georgia boys sign with the Tigers.

Cornerbacks: Needs: 2-3 ; Committed: 2

**** Perrish Cox 6-0, 170, 4.4 Waco (Texas) University

* Jason Teague  6-2, 190, 4.5  Cartage (Texas)

Top Targets

***** Jai Eugene 6-0, 185, 4.4 Destrehan (La.) 60-40

Eugene was all set to announce his intentions on signing day but the recruiting pressure is starting to get to him. He will now announce at the U.S. Army All-American Game on Jan. 7 out of LSU, Miami, USC, Tennessee, Michigan and Florida. And the winner is........I still say LSU.

 * Jake Jones 6-1, 180, 4.5 Mountain Brook (Ala.) 40-60

Jason Teague beat Jones to the punch and probably took his schollie at corner. The coaches may look at Jones at free safety but all indications are they wanted him at corner. Academically qualified.

Sonny's Pick: Jai Eugene jumps on board to give the Tigers three good corners for the future and the best group in he land for 2006.

 Safeties: Needs:  2-3; Committed: 2

*** Shomari Clemons 6-2, 205, 4.5 West Monroe (La.)

*** Troy Giddens 6-0, 200, 4.4 Hammond (La.)

Top Targets

**** Jonas Mouton 6-2, 212, 4.6 Los Angeles (Calif.) Venice Senior 30-70

At one time it looked like there was a good chance the Louisiana native would return his roots to play his college ball. However, now it looks like USC will lane another five-star recruit.

 **** Allen Walker 6-2, 200, 4.5 Olive Branch (Miss.) 50-50

This may be LSU's best shot with the Olive Branch boys. If Florida lands a safety any time soon then the Tigers have a good shot with Walker.

**** Reshad Jones 6-2, 180, 4.5 Atlanta (Ga.) Washington 50-50

LSU gets the last stab at entertaining Jones on an official. He is keeping a close eye on Laron Landry and if he opts for the NFL then Jones likely chooses the Tigers.

**** Anthony Summers 6-3, 200, 4.5 Olive Branch (Miss.) 50-50

Visited LSU in December and liked what he saw. That was his first trip so tough to get a good gauge on him at this time.

Sonny's Pick:  Reshad Jones
