Fowles named SEC Player of the Week

Sylvia Fowles, a sophomore center on LSU's third-ranked women's basketball team, was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, the league office announced.

Fowles averaged a double double in LSU's three wins during the week with 16.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 68.0 percent from the floor.

The 6-6 center posted 20 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in the Lady Tigers victory over No. 10 Michigan State on Wednesday and returned on Friday against South Florida to post 24 points on 7-8 shooting and 10-14 from the line, and added 13 rebounds.

The Miami, Fla., native had recorded three straight double doubles until closing out the week with six points and five rebounds in just 13 minutes of action vs. North Carolina A&T on Sunday.

This is the second time this season Fowles has earned the SEC's weekly honor. She also received the award for the week ending Dec. 19. LSU (11-0) travels to Auburn on Wednesday to resume Southeastern Conference action at 7 p.m. CST.
