LSU Baseball ranked 20th in Baseball America

LSU is ranked No. 20 in the 2006 Collegiate Baseball magazine pre-season poll released Thursday. Defending national champion Texas is No. 1 in the poll, followed by Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech and Cal State Fullerton.

LSU appears in the Baseball America pre-season Top 25 for the 17th straight season, the second-longest streak in the nation. Arizona State has appeared in the poll in 20 consecutive seasons.

LSU was ranked No. 15 in the Collegiate Baseball magazine poll released last month.

The Tigers, who are seeking their third College World Series berth in four seasons, open the 2006 season on Feb. 10 when they play host to North Florida at 6:30 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium.

The '06 LSU squad features 15 returning lettermen -- including seven pitchers and six position players with starting experience – and 14 newcomers (11 high school signees, two JUCO players and one four-year college transfer).

LSU will play 21 of its 56 regular-season games against teams that appear in the Baseball America Top 25. Ranked opponents on the Tigers' 2006 schedule include No. 3 Florida, No. 7 Rice, No. 9 Tennessee, No. 12 Tulane, No. 13 Mississippi State, No. 14 South Carolina, No. 18 Arkansas and No. 23 Ole Miss.
