Are Riley and Sheppard still solid on LSU?

Les Miles placed an emphasis on signing several top-flight linebackers in the 2006 class and he found a pair in the Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson duo of Kelvin Sheppard and Perry Riley.

Sheppard (6-2, 222, 4.65) and Riley (6-0, 210, 4.6) both had super senior campaigns and they played a key role in Stephenson finishing 12-2.

Sheppard played on the outside and recorded 102 tackles, 10 sacks, one interception that he returned for a touchdown and two forced fumbles.

Not to be outdone by his good friend, Riley logged 131 tackles, two sack and four interceptions.

Miles picked up commitments from the two Georgia boys back in mid September but they have continued to look around at some other schools.

Tiger Rag caught up with Sheppard late Monday evening to see just how solid he and Riley were with their pledges.

"I'm still kind of looking at Tennessee and Maryland but basically I'm 100 percent committed to LSU," Sheppard told Tiger Rag.

And Riley?

"I believe he is 100 percent committed as well," said Sheppard.

Sheppard said he and Riley plan on playing together at the next level and he does not foresee anything or anyone pulling them apart.

Some believe that if they decide to go anywhere other than LSU then they would likely decide to stay close to home and play for Georgia. As of now, though, that does not seem like it is going to happen.

"It stays in the back of your mind because it is the in-state school but they are not recruiting me as hard as the others," Sheppard said. "I have an offer from them but I don't hear from them too much. They are recruiting Perry a little harder but we want to stay together."

Sheppard said the two often talk about what the future holds and they are excited about the prospects of heading to LSU.

"We talk about it all of the time and we are excited about getting down to LSU," said Sheppard.
