Burkholder named SEC gymnast of week

After winning the all-around title at the Super Six Challenge last week, LSU's April Burkholder was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week by the conference office it was announced Tuesday. The league honor marks the seventh of the senior's career.

Burkholder notched a NCAA-leading 39.375 in winning the all-around crown. She also took home first-place honors on the beam and floor, posting marks of 9.850 and 9.825, respectively. The all-around title marks the 19th of Burkholder's career, while the individual event crowns are the 60th and 61st of her career.

For her efforts, Burkholder entered the nation's individual rankings at No.1 in the all-around. She is also listed among the top 15 on each of the four events, coming in at No. 3 on the beam (9.850), No. 9 on the bars (9.850), No. 13 on the vault (9.850) and No. 15 on the floor (9.825).

The Tiger gymnastics team returns to action this Sunday when they travel to Denton, Texas, for a quad meet with Texas Woman's, Centenary and Utah State. Action from TWU's Kitty Magee Arena will begin at 2 p.m.
