Crunch time for Jared Mitchell

It's getting down to crunch time for New Iberia (La.) Westgate receiver prospect Jared Mitchell.

Mitchell has been focusing on only LSU and South Carolina for the last four weeks and he has seen everything each school has to offer.

This past weekend Mitchell was in Columbia, S.C. for his official visit and it finally gave him a chance to compare his two finalists.

"Both were about the same," Mitchell said. "They both were alike in many ways. They both have good football and good baseball programs, and they both are strong academically."

Les Miles made his in-house visit on Monday to try and refresh Mitchell's mind on what the Tigers had to offer but it was not anything he had not heard before.

"He was just talking about the situation I'd walk into at LSU and the opportunity I'd have," said Mitchell. "That was pretty much it."

Did Miles try to get a commitment from Mitchell?

"No," said Mitchell. "He knew I was going to wait until I talked to coach (Steve) Spurrier tonight."

Spurrier was set to arrive at Mitchell's home around 7 p.m. on Tuesday for his one allotted in-house visit. Mitchell said that after he meets with the ol' ball coach he could make his decision shortly thereafter.

When asked when he expects to announce his decision, he replied, "It could be later this week. I want to think about it some and then pray about it."
