Lady Tigers will look to get back on track

LSU's third-ranked women's basketball team looks to get back on track when they host Alabama in a Southeastern Conference match-up on Thursday at 7 p.m. CST in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The Lady Tigers (14-1, 3-0 SEC) are coming off the first loss of the season, 51-48, at fifth-ranked Connecticut on Monday night. LSU scored a season-low 48 points, but held its seventh straight opponent to below 55 points.

Alabama (8-8, 2-1 SEC) has won two straight games, including a home victory over Arkansas on Sunday.

"Alabama is a much different team with the new coaching staff and are very capable, if you are not ready, to lay one on you," LSU head coach Pokey Chatman said. "We are going to have to be ready for that challenge."

LSU sits tied with Tennessee on top of the conference standings with a 3-0 mark, while Alabama is tied for fifth-place after wins over Auburn and Arkansas. The Lady Tigers have won 17 straight conference games, including eight in a row in the Maravich Center.

Seimone Augustus leads LSU into the game. The senior guard is averaging 19.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Sophomore center Sylvia Fowles is posting 17.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per outing and her field goal percentage of 66.7 is fourth best in the nation.

Junior guard Marverly Nettles leads the Crimson Tide with 11.3 points per game, while junior forward Harriet Barnes is scoring 8.5 points and grabbing 8.1 rebounds per contest.

This will be the 40th meeting between the two conference foes. LSU leads the series 23-16, including four straight wins. The Lady Tigers also lead the series in Baton Rouge, 15-3.

Following the game, LSU hits the road once again and travels to Athens, Ga., to face No. 13 Georgia on Sunday at 2 p.m. CST.
