Lady Tigers roll over Bama

LSU's third-ranked women's basketball team used another solid defensive performance, 20 points from Seimone Augustus and Florence Williams' first career double double on their way to a, 79-43, victory over Alabama on Thursday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The Lady Tigers (15-1, 4-0 SEC) held its eighth straight opponent to 52 points or less, while Alabama (8-9, 2-2 SEC) shot 34.8 percent from the floor and committed 31 turnovers.

"Our ability to get out on the defensive end of the floor and apply a lot of pressure to Alabama did not allow them get into a rhythm," LSU head coach Pokey Chatman said. "Once we got our feet wet defensively, we were able to settle in and execute offensively."

The victory marked LSU's 18th straight Southeastern Conference win and the 25th straight victory in the Maravich Center, the fourth longest active streak in the nation.

Augustus led the way with her 20 points on 9-16 shooting, while Quianna Chaney added 18 points off the bench and Williams equaled a career-best with 16 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in 23 minutes.

Marverly Nettles led Alabama with 19 points and seven rebounds.

LSU led the entire way and jumped out to an early 16-5 lead after a 10-0 run. The Lady Tigers led 35-18 at the break.

LSU then scored the first five points of the second half and outscored the Crimson Tide, 29-6 over the first 11 minutes of the half to take a 40-point lead.
