Shankle still up in the air?

The recruitment of Lufkin (Texas) athlete E.J. Shankle has taken many twists and turns over the past month.

First, Shankle committed to Texas Tech and then he switched his pledge to Texas A&M a little more than a week ago.

This past weekend Shankle took an official visit to LSU and there have been some rumors going around that he was going to commit to the Tigers.

Tiger Rag caught up with Shankle to see what the latest is.

"I told the LSU coaches that I was thinking about committing but I had to think about it on the way home," Shankle told Tiger Rag. "I thought about the two trips (LSU and Texas A&M) a lot and I just didn't feel as comfortable with my position coach at LSU.

"Coach (Todd) Monken (passing game coordinator/receivers coach) may be a good guy but I just didn't feel comfortable with him. I am going to call them tonight and tell them that (Texas) A&M is going to be my final decision."

Everything we have heard is that LSU is recruiting Shankle primarily for cornerback and if that is the case then his position coach would be LSU defensive backs coach Doug Mallory.

Would that have any effect on his decision and give LSU a good shot at landing his signature?

"It probably would," Shankle said. "Coach Mallory was a real cool guy and I got along good with him."

LSU linebackers coach Bradley Dale Peveto has recruited Shankle for the Tigers and he is scheduled to make an in-home visit on Wednesday.

If anyone can change Shankle's mind it may be Peveto.

"Coach Peveto is the coolest coach I've met through all of this," said Shankle. "Him and coach Mallory are both real cool. If Coach Peveto would have been my position coach then I'd be LSU all the way."

Along with Peveto, Shankle said he is scheduled to have coaches from Texas A&M in his home on Wednesday so that could turn out to be a very interesting evening in the Shankle residence.

Stay tuned for more coverage on Shankle's decision because if the past is any indication of the future then LSU may not be out of it just yet.
