Free throws seal tight game

The No. 3 LSU women's basketball team used a 12-0 run late in the second half break a tie game and pull away from No. 13 Georgia, 68-61, on Sunday in the Maravich Center.

In the first half, LSU shot 61.5 percent from the field (16 of 26), but Georgia hit five three pointers to stay within three at the half, 34-31. The Lady Bulldogs were 13 of 28 from the field and 5 of 9 from three-point range.

Each team had eight first-half turnovers. LSU committed only one half in the first 20 minutes, a block on Erica White less than one minute before the break. Augustus and Fowles each scored nine points to lead LSU, while Humphries had three three pointers and led Georgia with 11 points in the half.

LSU was held scoreless for the first 5:12 of the second half before White found Augustus for a fast-break layup out of a timeout. The Lady Tigers regained the lead, 36-35, with 14:48 to play.

With the game tied at 46-46 with 9:10 to play, LSU went on a 12-0 run over the next 6:44 to lead 58-46 with 2:26 to play to put Georgia on the ropes.

LSU returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Florida for a 6 p.m. CT contest in Gainesville.
