Jarred Bogany, CF, Fr., Houston, Texas 

Bogany enjoyed a magnificent collegiate debut, leading LSU to a series victory over North Florida . . . he hit .727 (8-for-11) in the series with two doubles, two RBI, two runs and one stolen base . . . he also made a spectacular catch in Game 1 to rob a UNF batter of an extra-base hit . . . Bogany, a true freshman, was the 15th round selection of the Pittsburgh Pirates in last summer's Major League draft.

Nominee for Pitcher of the Week

Derik Olvey, RHP, Jr., Pelham, Ala.

Olvey turned in a brilliant outing in his LSU debut, working 8.1 shutout innings to defeat North Florida on Feb. 11 . . . Olvey, a transfer from Notre Dame, limited the Ospreys to no runs on four hits in 8.1 innings with no walks and five strikeouts . . . he fired 90 pitches as the Tigers posted a 4-0 win to clinch the series victory.

LSU won a season-opening series for the seventh straight year, as the Tigers won two of three games last weekend over North Florida . . .

the Tigers hit .368 (39-for-106) in the series with nine doubles, while limiting North Florida to a .222 (22-for-99) batting average . . .

LSU successfully executed five sacrifice bunts in the three-game series versus UNF; the Tigers had only 22 sacrifices in the entire 2005 season (62 games).
