Augustus wins 3rd SEC Player of Week award

Seimone Augustus, a guard on LSU's second-ranked women's basketball team, was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week; it was announced by the league office on Monday.

Augustus helped LSU (22-1, 10-0 SEC) to a win at No. 5 Tennessee on Thursday and a victory over No. 13 Georgia on Sunday.

The Baton Rouge native poured in 32 points on 10-20 shooting from the floor and 10-12 from the free throw line in the win at Tennessee. Augustus had 17 of her season-high points in the second half, including four down the stretch to help secure LSU's first win against the Lady Vols in Thompson-Boling Arena.

Augustus then added 17 points in the victory over Georgia on Sunday, including six of LSU's 12 points in a second-half run that propelled the team to the win.

This marks the third time this season Augustus has won the honor. She was also named SEC Player of the Week on Nov. 21 and Jan. 23. This is the seventh time a Lady Tigers' player has received the award and the fourth straight week.

Sylvia Fowles is a four-timer recipient of the honor.

Augustus, Fowles and the Lady Tigers are in action again Thursday when they visit Gainesville, Fla., to face Florida at 6 p.m. CST.
