Augustus named LSWA Player of the Week

Northwestern State's Tyronn Mitchell and LSU's Seimone Augustus were named the Men's and Women's Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, it was announced on Wednesday.

Mitchell, a 6-1 point guard for the Demons, averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 steals in NSU's wins over Louisiana-Monroe and Texas-Arlington. The New Iberia native scored 16 points in the victory over ULM and added 13 points in the win over UTA. 

Augustus, a 6-1 senior guard for the Lady Tigers, led LSU to a pair of conference victories at No. 5 Tennessee and over No. 13 Georgia. The Baton Rouge native poured in a season-high 32 points in the win over the Lady Vols and added 17 points in the win over Georgia. Augustus, also named the SEC Player of the Week, has scored in double figures in 85 straight games.

The LSWA selects a weekly Player of the Week for men's and women's basketball from a list of nominations submitted by the state schools.
