Pierre joins list of elite assistants

ESPN and ABC analyst Dick Vitale Tuesday in USA Today named LSU Associate Head Basketball Coach Butch Pierre one of the "top second lieutenants" in college basketball.

Vitale listed six assistant coaches "waiting for an offer to coach a big-time program."

Pierre is in his ninth year as a member of Head Coach John Brady's staff after a career highlighted by a long tenure at Louisiana-Lafayette. The Louisiana native was at the UNC Charlotte before coming to Baton Rouge.

Joining Pierre on Vitale's list was Johnny Dawkins of Duke, Barry Rohrssen of Pittsburgh, Fred Hill, Jr., of Rutgers, Bill Grief of Gonzaga, and, Anthony Grant of Florida.
