Davis, Thomas nab top SEC honors

Off a 2-0 week in which the LSU Tigers moved up one spot in the national polls, LSU forwards Glen Davis and Tyrus Thomas took top honors from the Southeastern Conference office announced on Monday.

Glen Davis, off his fourth and fifth consecutive double doubles earned SEC Player of the Week honors for the first time this season and Thomas was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for the third time this year.

Davis, the 310-pound sophomore from Baton Rouge, totaled 19 points and 13 rebounds against Mississippi State and 24 points and 11 rebounds at Auburn in LSU's victories last week. The 24 points at Auburn marked his eighth 20-point game and in that game he became the 34th player in LSU history to pull down 500 rebounds in his two-year LSU career.

Davis leads the league with 9.7 rebounds per game and is second in scoring and third in field goal percentage at 50.6 percent.

Thomas total 16 points and 13 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season against Mississippi State and followed that performance with 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks at Auburn.

Thomas is the nation's leading freshman rebounder and shot blocker and leads the conference in blocks (3.1) and field goal percentage (60.9 percent) and is second in the SEC in rebounding at 9.2 boards per game.

LSU travels to Vanderbilt on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to take on the Commodores in Memorial Gymnasium in the Tigers' next game.
