LSU is No. 1

Baton Rouge (La.) Southern Lab is stockpiled with blue chips for the Class of 2007 and remember the name Frank Alexander because it will pop up often between now and signing day.

Alexander, a 6-4, 228-pounder with 4.7 speed, was a first team all-district selection on both sides of the ball for the Kittens. He started at tight end and defensive end, and with his size and speed he has the game to play either at the college level.

Like many recruits in America, Alexander is getting correspondence from schools across the country but five look to be showing him the most love.

"Right now, I'm being recruited the hardest by Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Michigan and Notre Dame," Alexander told Tiger Rag. "I haven't picked up an offer yet but they all say they have me high on their list."

Being born and raised in Baton Rouge, Alexander has grown up following hometown LSU so it should not be too big of revelation to hear that the Tigers occupy his top spot.

"I like all of the school recruiting me but I like LSU the most," he said. "LSU is like home. I've been watching them forever. I really want to stay close to home so my parents could watch me play."

During the 2005 campaign, Alexander made the short drive over to Tiger Stadium to experience a Saturday night in Death Valley.

Was that an eye opening experience?

"It sure was," Alexander stated. "I like how it is real live over there. The fans are behind you all the way and it doesn't get much better than there."

LSU has a big need for a couple of defensive ends and tight ends in this class and although Alexander plays both the Tigers have reportedly mentioned offense when the subject has come up.

"Most of them say tight end but I'll play on either side," said Alexander. "I really don't care but I guess if I had to choose I'd probably pick offense. It just seems like you get more action on offense and I like having the ball in my hands and making big plays."

With the May evaluation period a little more than five weeks away expect the LSU coaches to get a good look at Alexander when they make their rounds around the state.

And with all of the major college recruits on Southern Lab's roster they may have to make more than one trip to evaluate all of that talent.

Stay tuned to Tiger Rag for more on Frank Alexander and the other top prospects on LSU's board for '07.
