Kyle Coulahan of Pensacola (Fla.) Pensacola Catholic has lived all over the world but even through all of his relocating he knows home is where the heart is.
Coulahan lived in Louisiana the better part of his childhood days and this Saturday the big interior lineman took an unofficial to LSU to get a little taste of some home cooking.
His name was not one mentioned frequently throughout recruiting circles but expect to hear a lot more from the standout interior lineman as some of the top football programs in America are in hot pursuit of his talents.
Auburn, Central Florida and South Florida have already offered Coulahan a full ride but two more schools could be joining the race very soon.
"I talked to coach Les Miles last weekend and he told me and my mom that he believes they will offer me and then Mickey Andrews (Florida State defensive coordinator) said they are close too," Coulahan told Tiger Rag.
Many wonder how someone with his attributes could fly under the radar in this day and age of recruiting but much of that had to do with the fact that Coulahan transferred from West Florida High School immediately after his junior campaign.
He put up some impressive numbers with 65 tackles, six sacks and 25 tackles behind the line but that was only half of the story.
Coulahan not only started at end and offensive tackle, but he also played fullback, nose guard and even a little tight end.
His versatility can't go unnoticed but he will tell you pretty quickly what makes him stand out.
"I'm 6-5, 291 pounds and I'm not fat all," he said. "I'm real lean. I see a lot of guys around here my size but what makes me stand out is I'm flexible and very athletic."
Coulahan has some pretty strong ties to LSU since his mother and father both graduated from there but he also got a little help from his former head coach at West Florida.
"Coach (Scott) Watson played at LSU and he put in a good word with the old defensive line coach," Coulahan said. "Towards the end of my sophomore season I got my first letter from the coaches and then that summer I went to a camp."
That summer was when he first got to meet Miles and the rest of the coaches. He said he was overly impressed with all of the coaches but he admitted that he became even more impressed after watching the Tigers during their challenging 2005 season where they had to deal with so much off the field.
"I would watch LSU play other teams and I could see the heart that LSU played with and how the team stuck together," Coulahan added. "I could see a lot of things they did that the guys they were playing against didn't do. I think it had a lot to do with coaching and having the right players with the right attitude and leadership."
Coulahan admitted that he always had a special place in his heart for LSU but Auburn has done a fabulous job recruiting him.
Those two could be in a dogfight for his services but first he has to get an offer from the other set of Tigers.
"I can't make a decision without an offer from LSU but if they do then I will have a very difficult decision to make," he said.
Coulahan's Numbers: 310-Bench/510-Squat/315-Clean/3.2 GPA/Will take ACT for 1st time April 8
