Nick Claytor of Gainesville (Ga.) is one of the top offensive tackles in the South and the LSU coaches think he would look great wearing purple and gold.
The big 6-6, 290-pounder is big and agile and but when asked what makes him standout from others he is quick to say "my footwork".
Claytor has a list of 10 scholarship offers and has been getting a lot of interest from LSU.
Have the Tigers stepped up with an offer?
"I've got an offer from LSU, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Duke, Maryland, Indiana, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and UAB," he said.
LSU defensive backs coach Doug Mallory is in charge of recruiting Claytor for the Tigers and he is trying to get him down over the summer to spend some time in Louisiana's capital city.
"He text messages me quite a bit saying that he really wants me to come down for a visit but finding transportation is kind of rough due to the distance," Claytor said. "We're talking about trying to get down for a camp but we're still working on our camp list."
LSU has a big need for tackles on the offensive side of the ball and Mallory has made sure that Claytor understands how big the need is.
"He told me that when he first offered me," said Claytor, who was a first team all-state selection last season. "He said they are graduating quite a few guys and they need to replace them."
He went on to say that filling a need is just what he is looking for.
"I don't want to go to a place where the depth chart is stacked for three years and I'm really not needed," he explained. "I don't mind red shirting if that is the best thing for me after talking to the coaches but I definitely want to feel needed."
Playing in a successful program is right up there with playing time in Claytor's mind and he feels that LSU is up there with best of them.
"A bad season at LSU is like a two-loss season," he said. "They are always playing for the SEC Championship and go to big bowl games every year. They're always so dominant and have that swagger that the good teams have."
Picking a leader, or even a group of favorites, is not at the top of his list of priorities but over the summer he hopes to start narrowing his focus down.
"I'm still wide open and seeing where I fit in the best," Claytor said. "I've been to Georgia Tech several times and I've been to a couple of other junior days but that is about it. I'm going to see some more schools before I start thinking about a favorite and then I'll start to narrow it down."
Is there a good chance LSU will be one of those schools he goes to see?
"Definitely," he said. "It may be for an official visit but I'll get down there."
