Landry named preseason All-American

LSU senior safety LaRon Landry has been named second-team preseason All-America in The Sporting News' 2006 National College Football Yearbook, which goes on sale in June.

Landry, who enters his fourth season as a starter in the secondary for the Tigers, is ranked as the nation's No. 2 free safety by The Sporting News. Landry goes into his final season with the Tigers with 241 career tackles, 12.5 sacks and nine interceptions. Dating back to the 2003 season, Landry has started in 35 straight games.

Landry earned third-team All-America honors from the Associated Press following the 2005 season as well as being a first-team all-conference pick. He was named second-team All-SEC in both 2003 and 2004.

Other individual honors as Will Arnold as the nation's No. 6 offensive guard, Glenn Dorsey the No. 14 rated defensive tackle, Chevis Jackson the No. 15 ranked cornerback and JaMarcus Russell the No. 20 rated quarterback.

The Sporting News also named both Landry and Arnold to first-team All-Southeastern Conference preseason honors, while wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, Dorsey and Jackson were all second-team all-conference picks.

LSU signee Al Woods has been named by the magazine as the projected newcomer of the year on defense in the SEC.
