Tiger Rag Recruiting Feature -- Joe Chaisson

Joe Chaisson, one of Texas' top quarterbacks, said he plans to showcase his skills for LSU this weekend at the Tigers' 7-on-7 camp. Last season, Chaisson used both his legs and his arm to thrash defenses.

The 6-2, 175-pound quarterback tallied 1,626 yards in the air, while throwing 13 touchdowns for Westbrook High. On the ground, Chaisson used his 4.6 40-speed to rush for 774 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Last year, Chaisson told Tiger Rag Magazine that he considered LSU and Tennessee to be among his top teams. However, Chaisson now has seven offers and said he will be keeping his options open.

"Right now, I'm keeping an eye on all the teams: Tennessee, LSU, Iowa State, Baylor, Missouri and UTEP," said the former district MVP in Beaumont, Texas.

Chaisson said he visited the LSU facilities last year and liked what he saw.

"They had really nice facilities and everything," said Chaisson. "I didn't really get to see a lot of the campus, but around the football facilities, everything looked really good."

Right now, Chaisson said he has been talking with coach Pevato.

"He's a good guy," said Chaisson. "I like him and I liked talking to him. He told me how interested LSU is in me, and everything, and that they are going to keep in touch. He came to visit my school earlier this month."

What did Pevato say he liked about Chaisson?

"He said he liked how I was very athletic," Chaisson said. "He said I will be able to make a lot of plays for the offense."

Chaisson said he is looking for a college that can help him improve.

"I want to go somewhere were I can become a better player," said Chaisson. "I also want to be a good student, but I think all that will just fall into place."

Chaisson also used his athletic ability to play in the outfield on the baseball team. He said he ended the year with a 2.7, and scored a 920 on his SAT.
