Drake Nevis of Marrero
The 6-1, 285-pound defensive tackle committed to Ole Miss back in February but the competition for his signature has really heated up over the past month after he took home MVP honors at a recent combine.
"Ole Miss is still the only to offer in writing but Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Colorado, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State and Miami have said they were going to send me one in writing," Nevis told Tiger Rag.
There has been some talk around recruiting circles that LSU had offered
"I talked to coach (Larry) Porter a
week ago and all we talked about was whether I was still interested in LSU after
committing to Ole Miss,"
"I told him ‘yea', I was still
When asked if he knew what LSU was waiting on before extending an offer, Nevis replied, "He (Porter) said they want me to come to a camp so they can work with me and put me up against some o-linemen one-on-one since I was always double-teamed last year."
"I hope they do," he said. "They have a good program and so much energy in that stadium. That would be a great place to play plus it's the hometown team too. The only concern I have with LSU is playing time and the depth chart. That's really it."
Is that how he sees it?
"It's a good commitment but they are still my only offer on paper," he said. "I'll still take some visits to make sure that is the place for me but I like Ole Miss. I like the town and the coaching staff. Everything was nice from the coaches to everything."
