5-Star DE Names Top 3

Five-star defensive end Luther Davis (6-3, 252, 4.8) made the drive down from Baton Rouge but he will not be participating in this week's camp because he is recovering from a minor knee injury he suffered a couple of months back.

The first big camp session of the summer is going on at LSU as we speak and there are several blue-chip prospects in attendance.

Five-star defensive end Luther Davis (6-3, 252, 4.8) made the drive down from Baton Rouge but he will not be participating in the camp because he is recovering from a minor knee injury he suffered a couple of months back.

The knee is fine but Davis decided to wait until July to strut his stuff for the coaches as that is when many of the big dogs LSU is after are scheduled to be in town for camp.

If Davis is not going to participate in the festivities then why is he there?

"I just came to talk to the coaches and to hang out with them," said the five-star prospect.

Not long after the campers hit the field for the afternoon session on Sunday, Davis spent a little one-on-one time with the Tigers' headman.

"I just got through talking to coach Miles and now he is talking to Will (Blackwell)," Davis said. "He really was just telling me all of the reasons why I should go here and I really already knew all of them. I can't find a reason not to go to LSU."

Davis said he had planned to camp at several other schools but now it looks like he will only make two stops in addition to the one at LSU later in the summer.

"I wanted to go to all of the schools in my top five but I'm not going to be able to for financial reasons," he said. "I'm going to go to USC and Florida State and that will be it."

With that said, does that mean that the three schools he camps make up his top three?

"Those are definitely my top three," he said.

Decision time for Davis was initially scheduled for Aug. 26 as he and his good friend Ahmad Paige were going to announce their commitments on ESPNU.

Now, it looks like that time frame could get pushed up some.

"I'm still looking to announce in August but it may get moved a week or even sooner than that because of our jamboree," he said.
