Over the last five years, LSU has sent more players to the NFL than any other stretch in recent memory and that is something that has caught the attention of Cedar Hill (Texas) product William Cole (5-11, 165, 4.5).
"I'd say LSU is a good school," said Cole. "They send a lot of players to the NFL. That is one of my goals in life. If I don't make it there I know I'll do something with computers or accounting and LSU is good for that, too."
Last season, Cole toted the ball 54 times for 620 yards and nine touchdowns. He also grabbed nine passes for over 300 yards and four more scores.
LSU coaches told Cole they have a few positions they hope to try him at with one in particular.
"They talked about possibly playing slot receiver or just receiver, but mostly they want me to play corner back," said Cole. "I'd like to play corner because if I can show that I can stop the top receivers and really shut them down, I think that will help my transition to the NFL easier."
So far Cole has received 12 offers from schools like Arizona Arkansas, LSU, Texas A&M, Kansas, Nebraska, TCU, UTEP and Missouri.
"My top five would be LSU, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Colorado State and Missouri," Cole said.
LSU receivers coach Todd Monken is recruiting Cole for the Tigers.
"He is real friendly and they have done a real good job of coaching," said Cole. "Over the past five years, they have been on of the top colleges in the country."
Aside from Monken, Cole has heard plenty about LSU from some of his extended family.
"I have some cousins who live in Louisiana and they have been LSU fans," said Cole. "They have been big LSU fans all their life. I like the program and I like the style of corner back I would play there. I think playing man-to-man defense really will showcase my abilities and help me make it to the NFL."
Cole said LSU's academic reputation will also play a factor in his decision.
"They have a great graduation rate," said Cole. "With my family down there and everything, I think the Alumni situation would be able to help me get a good job after college."
The LSU camp in late July is something Cole is aiming for, but said he isn't sure whether or not he will make it.
"I'm not going to too many camps this summer," said Cole. "I'm going to check with my dad and see if I can go up there, but I'll definitely set up an official visit. I'll probably set up visits with Texas, TCU and UTEP as well."
Note** Cole said he has a core 2.9 GPA and has taken the ACT but hasn't received his scores as of yet.
