TIGER RAG'S TOP 25: Teams 30-26

We begin a six part series counting down the top 30 teams in the Tiger Rag Preseason Top 25 and beyond. Today, we bring you the teams we felt were just on the outside of the Top 25. Check back to TigerRag.com throughout the month of August for our official countdown.

30. Arkansas

Mascot: Razorbacks

Coach: Houston Nutt (57-40, 8 years)

2005 Record: 4-7 (2-6 SEC)

2005 Bowl: No bowl

Returning Starters: 20 – 10 offense/9 defense/punter

TR Take: With 20 starters back, the razorbacks are being tabbed as a sleeper in the SEC West. Houston Nutt gets more out of his players than any other coach anywhere. With some talent in place, the Hawgs could be poised for success.

29. Texas A&M

Mascot: Aggies

Coach: Dennis Francione (16-19, 3 years)

2005 Record: 5-6 (3-5 Big XII)

2005 Bowl: No Bowl

Returning Starters: 14 – 7 offense/6 defense/punter

TR Take: It is now or never for coach Fran in College Station. A 5-6 record last year left Aggieland in an uproar. Fran is fighting for his job in 2006.

28. Tulsa

Mascot: Golden Hurricane

Coach: Steve Kragthorpe (21-17, 3 years)

2005 Record: 9-4 (6-2 MWC)

2005 Bowl: Liberty Bowl – Tulsa 31, Fresno State 24

Returning Starters: 17 – 7 offense/9 defense/punter

TR Take: Kragthorpe has turned the corner at Tulsa as the Golden Hurricane is coming off its best season in recent memory. With lots of starters returning and a impressive Liberty Bowl victory, Tulsa is looking nowhere but up.

27. Boston College

Mascot: Golden Eagles

Coach: Tom O'Brien (66-42, 9 years)

2005 Record: 9-3 (5-3 ACC)

2005 Bowl: MPC Computers Bowl – Boston College 27, Boise State 21

Returning Starters: 14 – 6 offense/6 defense/kicker-punter

TR Take: The Eagles have a chance to make some noise in a down year in the ACC, but the second half of their schedule is brutal. BC always is one to pull off some surprises.

26. Nebraska

Mascot: Cornhuskers

Coach: Bill Callahan (13-10, 2 years)

2005 Record: 8-4 (4-4 Big XII)

2005 Bowl: Alamo Bowl – Nebraska 32, Michigan 28

Returning Starters: 16 – 8 offense/7 defense/kicker

TR Take: The Huskers did bounce back from a disappointing 2004 with a winning season, but can Bill Callahan sustain success in Lincoln?

Check back on Tuesday, Aug. 8 for teams ranked 25-21.
