TIGER RAG'S TOP 25: Teams 25-21

Today, we bring to you part two of a six-part series counting down the top 30 teams in the Tiger Rag Preseason Top 25 and beyond. Today, we bring you the teams ranked 25-21. Check back to TigerRag.com throughout the month of August for our official countdown.

25. Tennessee

Mascot: Volunteers

Coach: Phillip Fulmer (128-37, 14 years)

2005 Record: 5-6 (3-5 SEC)

2005 Bowl: No Bowl

Returning Starters: 13 – 6 offense/5 defense/kicker-punter

TR Take: Was last year's 5-6 season a fluke? No one is totally sure, but brining David Cutcliffe back as offensive coordinator may just save Phil Fulmer's job.

24. Iowa

Mascot: Hawkeyes

Coach: Kirk Ferentz (49-36, 7 years)

2005 Record: 7-5 (5-3 Big Ten)

2005 Bowl: Outback Bowl – Florida 31, Iowa 24

Returning Starters: 16 – 7 offense/7 defense/kicker-punter

TR Take: Drew Tate is back for his senior season, but he will throw to all new receivers and the Hawkeyes also must replace both cornerbacks. But Iowa always has a way of overachieving under Kirk Ferentz.

23. Oregon

Mascot: Ducks

Coach: Mike Belloti (90-42, 11 years)

2005 Record: 10-2 (7-1 Pac-10)

2005 Bowl: Holiday Bowl – Oklahoma 17, Oregon 14

Returning Starters: 15 – 7 offense/6 defense/kicker-punter

TR Take: Replacing Kellen Clemens will be tough, but Oregon could prove to be a team that could unseat USC in the Pac-10.

22. Virginia Tech

Mascot: Hokies

Coach: Frank Beamer (146-79-2, 19 years)

2005 Record: 11-2 (7-1 ACC)

2005 Bowl: Gator Bowl – Virginia Tech 35, Louisville 24

Returning Starters: 12 – 5 offense/5 defense/kicker-punter

TR Take: Some may think the Hokies will struggle without quarterback Marcus Vick. Vick's dismissal might be just what the doctor ordered.

21. Penn State

Mascot: Nittany Lions

Coach: Joe Paterno (354-117-3, 40 years)

2005 Record: 11-1 (7-1 Big Ten)

2005 Bowl: FedEx Orange Bowl – Penn State 26, Florida State 23 3OT

Returning Starters: 16 – 7 offense/9 defense

TR Take: Will this be the curtain call for JoePa? Who knows, but it looks as if the Lions will again contend for the Big Ten title.
