LSU in the running for 4-Star WR

With close to 30 offers so far, Deonte Thompson has had a tough time narrowing down his top five. However, he did tell Tiger Rag that he is considering LSU as one of his official visits.

Last season for Belle Glades (Fla.) Glades Central, Deonte Thompson (6-0, 186, 4.5) tallied 37 catches for 810 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Thus far, his offers have come from schools like Florida, University of Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, LSU, USC and Notre Dame, but more are surely to be on the way.

The 4-star receiver said that LSU has a little Florida feel to it and some of that has to do with LSU defensive line coach Earl Lane.

"I talked to him a few weeks ago and he was just saying how much he wanted me to be a part of his team," said Thompson, who is's No. 8 rated receiver. "He's a cool dude and I like him. He's real down to earth and I feel like I can talk to him."

Thompson said he likes LSU because of the coaching staff, even though he hasn't seen the campus.

"I'm looking for a school that will make me feel at home," said Thompson. "I want it to have a great atmosphere with great coaches and stuff like that. I've never seen LSU but I hear that it doesn't get much better that what they have in all of college football."

So, what are the chances of LSU getting an official visit?

"I'd say that right now it is pretty good," Thompson said. "I am going to come up with a Top 5 by the end of August and that is where my visits will go."

Thompson said he didn't make it to any team camps this summer but managed to showcase his skills at a few seven-on-seven passing camps.

"I did pretty well at those camps," said Thompson. "I feel like I was able to perform to the best of my ability and let coaches know I was out there."

That is also something Thompson said he wants to do for his team this season.

"I want to go out and hopefully bring home that first championship," said Thompson. "I just want to help my team and put my best effort on the field. I don't really have any personal goals."

Note: Thompson said that he should be fully qualified with a 17 on the ACT and that his GPA is 2.7.
