Russian Loved Death Valley

Alex Russian had high expectations for Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night. However, they were not met; they were exceeded by leaps and bounds.

"It was amazing," said the three-star tight end out of Round Rock, Texas. "Everything was fantastic.  It was everything I expected and more."

Alex Russian, who was on an unofficial visit, was able to tour the campus with his mother and sister as well as bear witness to the 45-3 massacre of in- state opponent Louisiana-Lafayette (ULL). He said he was able to stay in an apartment on campus and get a better feel for the school.

The three-star standout said what impressed him the most was not LSU's superiority to ULL, but the fans and atmosphere he will be playing in once he inks his scholarship with the Tigers.

"I committed on June 15, but this was more than I could have imagined," said the 6-4, 220-pounder. "I love the coaching staff and that's why I committed. They are young and energetic and I just felt at home with them. I love LSU's tradition and their fans; you can't get any better than this."

What did the fans do to impress Russian?

"They were all just so involved and you could tell they were affecting the game," he said. "They were cheering and they were just all so united. You could just tell that they were hyped up and ready to go. I mean, it was intense, but then everyone was friendly after the game and everybody just got along."

Russian also said he will be happy to be playing in the SEC.

"They are pretty much the best conference in the nation," he stated. "You play against some of the best players in the country in that conference.

Hopefully when I get there, I'll be able to help the team any way I can and maybe get some conference recognition."

Russian said he hasn't yet picked a major, but that he plans on using LSU's great business school to further his education.

As far as his last season in high school, Russian said his goal is simple.

"We want to win district and see how far we can go in the playoffs, hopefully winning state," he said.

Note: Russian has the necessary grade point average and test score to meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements.
